Alastair Walker


All my life I have never been interested in exercise, after school I took a gap year and did nothing but eat and drink and before I knew it, I was about to start University and was 22 and a half stone in weight, (144kg), had 41.4% body fat and a BMI of 42.7. I also had little muscle with 58% lean muscle. I knew I was big, but not that big! It got to a point where I thought 20 minutes of rowing once a week was strenuous exercise. I had no idea how to lose weight, the right foods to eat or the sort of exercise I needed to lose weight and tone up.

I contacted Craig and asked him to help me. With his help, he taught me all about how to train effectively, gave me a work out tailored to me and with him I set goals to achieve. We wanted to loose five stone by the end of first year at University…yeah right I thought!

We began at a steady pace and didn’t try to do too much at once. I remember the first session, I thought my arms were about to fall off. After I had lost one stone, I still looked the same which felt demotivating. But Craig kept motivating me, he started increasing my amounts of cardio as I got fitter and increased my weights to always keep improving. Before I knew it, I was lifting weights twice as heavy and would work out every day for about an hour and a half.

Craig also gave me a tailored nutritional plan in order to give me a balanced diet that suited me better as it allowed me to eat every few hours and stopped me from getting hungry. The foods I was eating were much better and keeping me fuller for longer. 

Slowly but surely I started to lose weight and started to see some improvements which helped spur me on. I’d go home in between university terms and would find I could wear clothes that I had not fitted into since I was about 17.

After 7 months with Craig, we had reached my goal weight of 17 stone (108kg) and my body fat had reduced to 28.1% and my BMI had dropped to 31.9 the first goal we set I felt so much better and it was great to show my friends and family how much weight I had lost. It was also amazing to be able to go into a normal high street shop and buy clothes that would fit.

After I hit 17 stone, I found it difficult to keep up what I had started and went through a phase of managing to increase my muscle mass but not losing any more weight. I had always wanted to keep going with my weight loss but struggled to keep up the momentum. Over the next little while, I had put weight on and gone up to 18.1 stone (115.2kg).

Talking with Craig allowed me to realise that my weight loss was a lifestyle change and not a quick fix. I wasn’t trying to lose a lot of weight, just to avoid putting it back on again! So we reassessed my goals, had regular weigh in’s and Craig’s motivation really spurred me on.

Suddenly I was losing around 2 kg a week, and over the last 5 months, I lost a further two and a half stone, I have now reached my goal weight of 15 and a half stone, with a fat percentage of 23.9%. My BMI has dropped to 28.9, the first time it has been below 30 in many years which means I am no longer in the ‘Obese’ BMI category.

Having lost 36Kg of body fat and reducing my BMI by nearly 14 points has left me feeling like a different person, I cannot believe the change I have gone through. I am much more confident; I can go into normal shops and buy clothes straight off the racks. I have much more energy and am probably the fittest I have ever been in my life and I’m even inspiring my family to get exercising!

There is no way I could have done this alone, without the excellent help and guidance Craig gave me, I don’t think I would have lasted a month in the gym. It was everything from changing my workouts regularly in order to stop working out becoming the same, giving me expert advice on what foods to eat and not to eat and being there motivating me to help me believe that I could achieve the goals set. I owe a lot to Craig.

Thank you Craig for giving me the guidance and support that I badly needed in order to lose weight and become and fitter person. What you have done has not only helped me lose weight and increase my fitness, but changed my life! You were an excellent trainer and a good friend too and I want to thank you for all the effort you put in and training me so well that I became your most successful client ever! An achievement that I tell everyone about!
